Sisyphus
‘Sisyphus’ (2022) depicts a car wreck found near Mudgee NSW.
The work contextualises the Greek mythology of ‘Sisyphus within a native Australian landscape’, fusing symbolism from Aboriginal dreamtime stories and folklore. The inalienable interconnection between all things, well-understood in pre-colonial society, is juxtaposed against the inheriteted burdens of the post-industrial world, whose punishing follies are condemned to reoccurance, until ancient lessons in humility are recovered.
